The Little Christmas was founded at the beginning of the year 2001 by Anne Helen Lindsay. She started her business in her garage where she lived. Here was the house with Christmas lights up year round and the painted Santa Claus footsteps marking a path through her garden to the garage where the store was located.

The year-round decorations and Christmas kitsch she sold out of her garage attracted tourists to her home all hours. Here garden was often teeming with guests to whom she served coffee and encouraged extended visits. The scheme lasted about four years until it became much live at work and people started arriving early on a Sunday morning, knocking on her doorstep, asking for seeing the shop. She decided it was time to move the store to get some privacy from her work. She moved the shop to a little bit bigger space on Laugavegur 8 and has been there ever since.

She imports products from all over Europe, and her ambition is to import something unique, different that is hard to find and something that reminds us of the old days. But her main ambition is to specialise in Icelandic handiwork and ornaments.  The Little Christmas Shop has a unique position of the wide range of products, many of them are exclusively made for the shop. Icelandic craftsmen, who each have a distinctive approach, working with materials such as glass, wood and wool.

In addition to customary Christmas ornaments, we offer Icelandic folklore figurines, such as the thirteen Yule lads and their notorious mother, Grýla. And of course the Christmas cat, but he is að big myth here in Iceland. When visiting the Little Christmas shop, one can expect us to share some exciting stories from the various Christmas traditions of Icelandic culture or stories of the mischievous thirteen Yule lads which have been known to scare some foreign children and adults but are nonetheless extremely popular!
