Dyrfinna Collection

The designer traces her roots to Ísafjörður, a town in the West Fjords of Iceland, and has always been influenced by nature in that area, closeness to the sea, imposing and rugged mountain ranges together with the delicate flora there.

This kind of drawing power has activated Dýrfinna’s intertwining of fish skin and silver into decorative patterns of flowers and other plant life.

The actual patterns have their origin in traditional Icelandic festive dresses of women from around the middle of the 19th century, initially designed by artist painter Sigurður Guðmundsson who was much interested in old and new attire for women and created their formal festive dresses.
