Ingólfur Arnarson According to existing written sources, Iceland's first permanent settler was Ingólfur Arnarson, who made his home in Reykjavík around AD 870. Archaeological excavations in Aðalstræti and Suðurgata streets have revealed evidence supporting information from the book of settlement.
