Kaffivagninn was established in 1935, originally as a vending truck but later moved to a small house on the harbour, making it one of Reykjavík's oldest restaurants.
Kaffivagninn offers a wide variety of Icelandic fish dishes such as fresh trout, cod roe, fish and chips, Scandinavian fish balls, and bearnaise cod fricassée ('Plokkfiskur'). You can also get real Danish open-faced smørrebrød and many other types of delicious sandwiches.
Kaffivagninn may be most famous, however, for its generous servings of traditional pastries including marriage bliss cake, Scandinavian tortes, Danishes, kleina and other sweet delicacies. Recently, the Kaffivagninn was renovated.
