Reykjavík Art Museum is Iceland´s largest network of art museums.
Current Exhibitions
Established in 1973, the museum is housed in three unique buildings in central Reykjavík and holds some of the most distinguished works in Iceland´s artistic landscape. It plays a significant role in preserving traditional works of art, displaying the works of renowned international artists, promoting emerging local talent and engaging with the community. The museum´s exhibits run the gamut from the historical to the disorienting and boundary-pushing, while its special events range from quiet, contemplative concerts to alternative rock phenomena. The admission ticket is valid to all three Museums on the same day.

Ásmundarsafn (Ásmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum) is the former home and workshop of the sculptor Ásmundur Sveinsson (1893-1982), who designed and mostly constructed the building himself in Laugardalur. The museum serves to preserve his work and life and displays the largest collection of his sculptures both inside and outside the building. Ásmundur´s art greatly reflects his lifelong interest in the Icelandic sagas, folktales, and classical mythology. The building itself is a magnificent work of architecture, largely inspired by the Egyptian pyramids and the mosques of the Middle East. Ásmundarsafn also houses temporary exhibits and installations. The impressive sculpture garden surrounding the building can be enjoyed for free by anyone at any time of the day or year. The museum also houses a design store and is within close walking distance of Laugardalslaug Thermal Pool, the Botanic Garden, and the Reykjavík Zoo & family Park.
