Reykjavík Art Museum is Iceland´s largest network of art museums.
Current Exhibitions
Established in 1973, the museum is housed in three unique buildings in central Reykjavík and holds some of the most distinguished works in Iceland´s artistic landscape. It plays a significant role in preserving traditional works of art, displaying the works of renowned international artists, promoting emerging local talent and engaging with the community. The museum´s exhibits run the gamut from the historical to the disorienting and boundary-pushing, while its special events range from quiet, contemplative concerts to alternative rock phenomena. The admission ticket is valid to all three Museums on the same day. 

Kjarvalsstaðir is the first building in Iceland intentionally designed to display works of visual art. Its doors opened in 1973, and it is named after the painter Jóhannes S. Kjarval (1885-1972), one of Iceland´s most influential and recognized artists. The most comprehensive collection of Kjarval´s works is on permanent display here, highlighting his range of styles, his use of the local nature and mythology. The exhibitions at Kjarvalsstaðir focus primarily on paintings and sculptures of the established masters of modern art. The museum hosts year-round concerts of various styles. A fine example of Nordic modernism, the building features floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the beautiful Klambratún Park. You can take in the view while enjoying a drink and snack from the museum´s café. There is also a museum shop in the main lobby and a lovely family friendly space.
