Aðalstræti, Reykjavík

Excavations in Aðalstræti Street have revealed ruins dating back to Viking era, when the first settlers came to Iceland. In 1752, Treasurer Skúli Magnússon decided it should be a site for various workshops - “The Innréttingar” - which eventually formed the core of the town.
