Sjávarbarinn (The Sea Bar) is a vivid and homely seafood restaurant close to the old port – opposite the Reykjavik Maritime Museum – run by chef Magnús Ingi Magnússon and his wife, Analisa Montecillo. The fish is as fresh as it gets with the pier and the fish market a few steps away.

Sjávarbarinn’s main feature is an all-you-can-eat buffet, but it also offers an à la carte menu at a very competitive price.

During the busy lunch hour, the buffet is filled with traditional Icelandic family recipes, which attracts working people in the neighbourhood. Lunch at Sjávarbarinn allows the visitor to join the locals on a typical working-day in a friendly and cheerful atmosphere.

The evenings are more relaxed, and the chef spruces things up a little bit. It’s a nice walk in the summer night along the dock to the city centre after having indulged yourself with delicacies such as seafood pan, langoustine tails or creamy fish soup (and a refreshing fermented shark and Black Death if you dare to test your taste buds!)

Welcome to Sjávarbarinn!
