Bad Taste is one of Iceland’s most important record labels; located in Reykjavík and known worldwide for being home to The Sugarcubes, it also publishes poetry books, short films, greeting cards and Icelandic gifts. The label was named to its English translation, Bad Taste, after Pablo Picasso’s manifesto: “Good taste and frugality are the enemies of creativity”.It has grown from being an experimental cultural organization into a fully active record company, working with some of Iceland’s most interesting artists, e.g. Sugarcubes, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Múm, Minus, Gus Gus to name but few. During recent years Smekkleysa has been running it´s own retail outlet in the heart of the capital, Reykjavík.
